For staff members, there are three types of posts: Announcements, Questions, and Discussions.
As a staff member, perhaps you want to simply send out important information or reminders to members of your competition. Announcements are meant to be solely informative.
Announcement posts are locked and do not accept replies. Below is an example of an announcement post and its thread.
Announcement as it is shown in the list.

This means the post was created by a staff member, and is an announcement.

Discussions are simply posts to which people can respond. They are meant to be conversations! This could be useful in a variety of scenarios. Here is an example for you.
Discussion as show in the list.
A discussion thread with four replies.
Discussion posts can also be locked, which can be useful to ensure a thread doesn't get out of hand.
Questions are exactly as they sound- but they come with a cool additional feature. When a question is asked in your competition, it will look like the example below.
Question as shown in the list.
Question thread, with one reply.
Question threads can also be locked, just as discussion boards can be.
The neat thing about questions is that as a staff member, you can choose to mark a reply to the question as the answer by selecting
When you do so, that reply is shown at the top of the page and is given extra emphasis. An example of this is shown below.
A response has been highlighted as the answer. You can also un-mark it as answer using the menu.
